Mavis Staples to receive all-star tribute concert for 75th birthday

    A star-studded concert is being organized to mark soul singer Mavis Staples’ 75th birthday.

    “I’ll Take You There – Celebrating 75 Years of Mavis Staples” is set for November 19th at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre. The concert promises performances from Gregg Allman, Eric Church, Widespread Panic, Ryan Bingham, and Glen Hansard, along with Staples herself. Also set to appear are Michael McDonald, Patty Griffin, Taj Mahal, Buddy Miller, Aaron Neville, and Marty Stuart.

    The show is being produced by Don Was alongside Keith Wortman. The two have previously curated all-star tribute shows for acts like Gregg Allman, Johnny Cash, and Levon Helm. Was will also direct the upcoming Bob Dylan MusiCares tribute concert.

    Tickets to the Staples tribute concert will go on sale September 29th. The event will also be recorded and filmed for a future DVD and CD release.
