Actor Richard Kiel died on Wednesday afternoon in Fresno, California. Kiel was 74 years old and just three days away from his 75th birthday.
Most famous for his role as the henchman Jaws in the late 1970s James Bond films The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, the 7-foot, 2-inches tall actor played numerous intimidating villains throughout over 50 years in film. He had roles in the TV series Twilight Zone and The Wild Wild West, and even took on the persona of the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk show before Lou Ferrigno was cast. Kiel is also remembered for his role opposite Burt Reynolds in The Longest Yard and for playing Mr. Larson in Happy Gilmore. More recently, he voiced Vlad in Disney’s Tangled.
TMZ was the first to report the news of Kiel’s passing. A member of his family told the news site that Kiel was in the hospital for a broken leg he’d suffered last week. It’s unknown at this time if the injury is related to his death.
