It’s hard to believe it’s been some two years since Sam Smith popped up on everyone’s radar with the Dislcosure collaboration “Latch”. In that time, the 22-year-old crooner has had plenty of success, from breaking Billboard records to touring the world and collaborating with the likes of Mary J. Blige. In case you missed any of his triumphant rise to the top, the video for “Restart” will easily get you up to speed.
Opening on VHS footage of Smith and his band covering both Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose” and Outkast’s “Spottieottiedopaliscious”, the video quickly goes to a radio announcement montage celebrating Smith’s popularity. From there, we get glimpses of Smith on stage basking in front of sold-out crowds, goofing off backstage with his crew, and chumming it up with Nile Rodgers. It’s a victory lap that offers a candid look into Smith’s hectic life atop the pop’s upper echelon.
