ScHoolboy Q and Nas team for new version of “Studio” — listen

Nas has spent much of the last year waxing nostalgia with the reissue of llmatic and subsequent US tour, documentary, et al. Today, he finally pops back into present times with brand new music, teaming with ScHoolboy Q for a remix of the Oxymoron standout “Studio”.

Over the course of the track, Q distracts himself from the monotony of work with thoughts of after hour escapades. However, if you’re a label-owning rap kingpin like Nas, you’re always working, and thus his verses deal with keeping his nose firmly to the grindstone. Nas’ steady, thoughtful rhymes find him mulling over options for his new album and his various business ventures, making it clear that he’s married to his job.

The best bit of lyricism, though, comes when Nas reveals that Q only makes contact when he happens upon Belly on TV. Hey, Nas, if you’re going to star in a film with thespians like DMX and T-Boz, people are going to keep bringing it up.
