Stream: The Juan Maclean’s new album In A Dream

Dance-pop duo The Juan Maclean — aka producer Juan Maclean and former LCD Soundsystem keyboardist Nancy Whang — will release their third studio album, In A Dream, on September 9th via DFA Records. In anticipation, it’s streaming in full at NYTimes.com.

The nine-track effort serves as the follow-up to 2009’s The Future Will Come and 2011’s “odds-and-ends” collection, Everybody Get Close. In a press release, the pair described the album as Whang’s “triumph” and “the Nancy Show,” adding that the album “takes its musical cues from Moroder’s Munich to the Funky Nassau sounds of Compass Point and to anytime in downtown NYC.”

In an interview with Attack Magazine, Maclean delved deeper into the emotional influences of the record. “I think the trajectories of our personal lives always influence these records. If I could speak in general for Nancy without getting too personal, much of the types of things we sang about on previous albums were things that are now more settled for her. She’s coming from a stronger, more balanced place,” Maclean said. “On my part, however, through the early days of conceiving this album, my personal life continued on the now lifelong trajectory of consistent personal ruin and isolation, due in large part to being on the road most of the time.”
