Louisville indie rock outfit The Fervor has become accustomed to a revolving door lineup. Natalie and Ben Felker started the band as a husband-and-wife duo, but it quickly became a trio after coming across drummer Matt Heron. Several records and EPs later, the band has evolved into a full-fledged five-piece act by adding bassist Brandon Duggins and guitarist MaryLiz Guillemi. While these adjustments have pushed them in a positive direction, the band takes on changing of relationships from a bit bleaker perspective on their latest track, “Moment Of Truth”.
What starts out as a lovely mix slowly starts to unravel into a dark, brooding ode to becoming numb in a relationship. Natalie Felker’s voice croons over the lush layers of piano and strings, but the harsh, clapping drums and distorted guitars add a bit of aggression to the mix. The results heighten the intensity and emotional strain of lyrics like “don’t worry ’cause you won’t feel a thing.”
