Earlier this month, LA electropop outfit YACHT returned with a brand new single called “Where Does This Disco?”. Turns out the track is part of a forthcoming EP of the same name, due out on November 11th via their new label, Downtown Records. The follow-up to their 2011 album, Shangri-La, is further previewed today with “Works Like Magic”. Equal parts groovy and glitchy, the song sounds like it was born in “Funkytown”, but bred in some futuristic planet led by robots.
According to YACHT (via Billboard), the track is about the close relationship between sex and technology: “The science fiction writer J.G. Ballard once said that ‘sex times technology equals the future. We argue that sex and technology coexist in our present: we touch, we push buttons, we seek intimacy in screens. When we connect, it works like magic.”
