Black Flag co-founder Greg Ginn has been accused of child abuse by his ex-wife, Marina Ginn.
In an affidavit filed in Williamson County Texas District Court on October 10th, Marina asked for an Emergency Motion to Modify the Parent-Child Relationship over concerns that the health and welfare of her two daughters “are currently being jeopardized.”
Marina, who resides in Austin, Texas, says her daughters, age 10 and 7, “live in constant fear” of their father. While under his care, she claims Greg “routinely denies [them] food” so that they do not gain weight, has threatened them with physical abuse and, at times, thrown cups of water in their faces. Marina also alleges that he emotionally harasses his daughters by whistling and telling them, “You’re hot.” According to Marina, her youngest daughter was taken to the hospital on October 7th over stress and anxiety stemming from these events. In an email to Consequence of Sound, Marina confirmed the veracity of the affidavit, but offered no further comment. Our emails to Greg Ginn and his representatives have gone unanswered as of publication.
According to her Linkedin profile, Marina is a graduate of Texas A&M and is currently enrolled in Westerns Governors University where she’s studying to get her MBA. She has authored two books, and is also listed as the owner of the Alphabiotic Center in Austin. Last week, a fundraiser was established on the crowdsourcing site Go Fund Me to cover her legal fees.
Greg founded Black Flag in 1976 and has remained a permanent member of the band ever since. In April, he settled a lawsuit with his former bandmates Keith Morris, Dez Cadena, Chuck Dukowski, and Bill Stevenson claiming they had violated the Black Flag trademark, which he owns, by reuniting as FLAG.
He’s also dealt with inner-band drama in Black Flag. In November, singer Ron Reyes was unceremoniously fired from the band for being “combative” and “disgruntled.” Reyes responded by accusing Ginn of threatening his family.
