Crystal Castles break up

Singer Alice Glass has announced her departure from Crystal Castles, effectively ending the Toronto-based electronic outfit. Glass cited “professional and personal” reasons for her decision, and said she’ll be launching a solo career.

She wrote on Twitter: “I am leaving Crystal Castles. My art and my self-expression in any form has always been an attempt towards sincerity, honesty, and empathy for others. For a multitude of reasons both professional and personal I no longer feel that this is possible within [Crystal Castles]. Although this is the end of the band, I hope my fans will embrace me as a solo artist in the same way they have embraced Crystal Castles.”

Formed by Glass and producer Ethan Kath in 2004, Crystal Castles released three full-length albums and several more EPs over their 10-year run. Their debut LP, (I), was released in 2008, followed by (II) in 2010, and (III) in 2012. Along the way, they toured with the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, and played gigs at Coachella, Glastonbury, and Bonnaroo.
