Fyfe shares poignant single “Holding On” — listen

Breathtaking saxophone solos accompanied alt pop crooner Paul Dixon, aka Fyfe, on his lovely summer single, “For You”. Now, the specters of both Kanye West and Björk haunt his latest number, “Holding On”.

Counting the Chicago MC and Icelandic artist as inspirations, Fyfe weaves together a shadowy song that’s buoyed by the subtle swagger of hip-hop beats and brimming with grand, somber swells of synths. Lyrically, the track falls in line with much of the UK native’s previous wistful offerings, as Fyfe attempts to keep a relationship from completely falling apart.

“Penned whilst staring out of plane and train windows on trips to the continent, ‘Holding On’ captures a relationship pushed to its limits,” notes a press release. “That universally heart-pang moment of reaching someone’s voicemail, the paranoia you choose to overcome and this wish to bridge a physical and emotional distance.”
