Katy Perry has been tagged to headline the 2015 Super Bowl Halftime Show, according to the New York Post. The newspaper cited an anonymous source saying, “A deal is being hammered out for Katy to play the Super Bowl.” Billboard is also reporting the news attributing its own sources.

The 29-year-old pop star was one of three acts initially rumored to headline next year’s Super Bowl alongside Rihanna and Coldplay. However, Perry recently told ESPN that she is “not the kind of girl who would pay to play,” in reference to a report that the NFL was considering the possibility of charging potential Super Bowl Halftime performers for the high-profile gig.

Perry marks the third female artist to headline the Super Bowl in the last four years, following in the footsteps of Beyoncé and Madonna. To date, Perry has sold 11 million albums and 81 million singles worldwide, and achieved 11 number one singles in the US. As a global superstar, Perry will allow the NFL to appeal to a wide demographic beyond just NFL diehards. If you recall, Bruno Mar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2013 actually drew better ratings than the game itself.
