Last year, Kim Gordon announced plans to release Girl in a Band, a memoir chronicling her life and decades-long music career. Now the book, due out via Harper Collins imprint Dey Street Books, finally has a release date of February 24th, 2015.
According to a press release (via Pitchfork), the memoir traces Gordon’s life from childhood to the present, including the years spent in Sonic Youth and the New York City post-punk scene of the ’80s, as well as her most recent project Body/Head.
“At the heart of the book is the examination of what partnership means — and what happens when it dissolves,” it notes, likely referring to the splitting of Sonic Youth and the highly publicized breakup of Gordon and frontman Thurston Moore.
It also promises to be an “atmospheric look at the New York of the ’80s and ’90s that gave rise to Sonic Youth, as well as the alternative revolution in popular music that Sonic Youth helped usher in, paving the way for Nirvana, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, and many other acts.”
