On December 1st, Mogwai will release an EP comprised of new music and various remixes taken from the sessions for their latest album, January’s Rave Tapes.
Entitled Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1., the EP includes three brand new songs (“Teenage Exorcists”, “History Day”, and “HMP Shaun William Ryder”) along with remixes of album tracks from Pye Corner Audio, Nils Frahm, and Blanck Mass. Similar to Rave Tapes, the Scottish post-rock outfit recorded at its own Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow alongside producer/collaborator Paul Savage.
To accompany today’s announcement, Mogwai has shared the EP’s opening track, “Teenage Exorcists”. Whereas Rave Tapes proved to be a mixed bag, with the band pulling randomly from their own catalog, “Teenage Exorcists” is a bit more-straightforward, and thus more easily consumed. Built on the ferocious backs of driving bass, rumbling drums, and the distorted squealing of guitars, the track exudes a beguiling concoction of carefree abandon and visceral, almost universal angst.
