Morrissey reveals recent cancer treatments: “If I die, then I die”

Morrissey’s two most recent North American tours were derailed due to a series of health issues, including Barrett’s esophagus, a bleeding ulcer, and double pneumonia. In a new interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo (via the Guardian), the singer revealed that he’s also faced four separate cancer scares in recent years.

“They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already,” Morrissey explained, “but whatever.” The singer added he’s content with whatever the future holds, saying, “If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t. Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do. I’m not going to worry about that, I’ll rest when I’m dead.”

In the interview, Morrissey also admitted that the doctors have “cautioned” him to stop touring “… but it’s difficult for me because it’s very ingrained within me.” He’s currently touring Europe in support of his latest LP, World Peace Is None Of Your Business.
