Following last week’s anime-centric affair for “It Girl”, hat auteur Pharrell Williams returns today with the video for his disco-indebted Daft Punk collaboration, “Gust of Wind”. Director Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) found a particularly interesting way to include the world’s most famous robots: by casting them as giant stone monoliths, who spin and light up like disco balls. (Think a groovy version of Easter Island.) Add in Williams shimmying and shaking through an enchanted forest with a bunch of dancing pixies, and the whole thing kinda feels like a hippie-meets-hipster version of the ending of Planet of the Apes. I prefer a future full of funk over overly-dramatic apes anyways.
Watch it below.
“Gust of Wind” is off Williams’ latest solo album, G I R L.
