THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB share new song “Girl Tell Me Something” — listen

Up until recently, hip-hop act THE BL∆CK HE∆RTS CLUB has served primarily as a production team. Comprised of New Orleans songwriter Lucho and Congolese French rapper Alec Lomami, the pair has been collaborating together since 2003, trading tracks and verses over the mail.

However, during a session producing Lomani’s cousin Well$’s debut, MTSYD: The Revenge of the African Booty Scratcher,  Lucho and Lomani started compiling demos for their own project. With Well$ on board as well, the group is set to release its debut EP, Insomnia, early next year. In the meantime, they’ve shared the first single, “Girl Tell Me Something”.

Opening up with Saturday Night Live reminiscent horns, the track quickly descends into a sensationally funky groove. Well$ jumps in abruptly with a short verse that builds the hype to Lucho’s vibrant, falsetto hook. Lomani, however, doesn’t pop up until late in the track, dropping a rapid French verse over dreamy synthesizer loops. It’s a wildly enthusiastic song, feeling like something The Neptunes could’ve dropped in their heyday.
