Back in June, The Weeknd broke his months-long silence by releasing “Often”, a ballad so sensuous it made mention of bladders and nausea sexier than Barry White in a mink coat on Valentine’s Day. Now, months later, the R&B crooner revisits the boudoir anthem with a brand new remix featuring ScHoolboy Q (whom he recently toured alongside) and Rick Ross.
In and of himself, the man born Abel Tesfaye knows how to handle a track, exuding as much risque sex appeal as a couple dozen Color Me Badds. However, the addition of Q and Ross help add a little more intensity and testosterone to the mix. Lines like “Trade my grill in for the Bentley or the Range, you know/ I’m in the studio, tryin’ to get some brains, you know” may seem a bit one-dimensional, but they’re just the kind of dense come-ons needed to balance out the ambient-meets-R&B production. Regardless, you’ll want to keep an old-style hand fan nearby during your first few run-throughs.
