Featuring members of the now-defunct Canadian art rock band Women, Viet Cong makes dark pop music with a sparse, post-punk backbone. After releasing a tour-only EP earlier this year, the quintet is set to release its self-titled debut on January 20th via Jagjaguwar. Our first taste of the seven-track effort comes via lead single, “Continental Shelf”.
Anchored by spacey guitars, a wall of dense noise, and metallic bass, the song sounds like something out of The Cure’s discography, albeit a little more menacing. Even with it’s darker undertones, it’s still a gripping single made all the more complex with biting lines like, “If we’re lucky we’ll get old and die.” Listen in below.
Viet Cong Tracklist:
01. Newspaper Spoons
02. Pointless Experience
03. March Of Progress
