Chance The Rapper has shared “Sunday Candy”, the first track from his upcoming album with The Social Experiment, Surf. Per the album art (above) and a recent interview with Billboard, Surf is officially credited to The Social Experiment and trumpet player Donnie Trumpet (aka Nico Segal). Even still, Chance primarily leads the charge on this feel-good single, spitting a mix of absurdist rhymes and emotionally revealing lines over a bizarre, electronically-tinged hybrid of soul, folk, and Caribbean music.
In an interview with The FADER, Segal described the collaborative nature behind Surf and the focus of “Sunday Candy”.
We’re working on all this music together, but this project in particular is a Donnie Trumpet project. My music, with their influence and ideas, plus us all coming up with crazy shit to do. But at the end of the day, it’s my directing.
This song specifically is a great representation of [The Social Experiment’s] collaborative efforts. It’s my curation, but then bringing it to the table with all these beautiful people and including them in their own way. Jamila sang on that hook, then I brought it to the collective. Peter added some great layers of texture and helped produce, Nate added a bunch of drums, tons of our friends from Chicago played instruments and added their ideas.

While there’s no official release date for Surf, Chance has promised the LP could be out by year’s end.
