If you found yourself offended at the idea of H&M’s Coachella-inspired clothing line, you might want to sit down for this next one: Two individuals are attempting to sell t-shirts and tank tops depicting Kurt Cobain’s handwritten suicide note.
The tee, available on eBay, is the work of a resident of Thailand named Nuchyk. The intrepid entrepreneur makes sure to disclose that the shirts are “not official” and are “100percent made by me.” Meanwhile, an Etsy user named SpicyTeen is offering a tank top with the same design.
After the shirt went viral on Reddit, Etsy and eBay began pulling down the listings. Etsy says users aren’t allowed to sell items that “support or glorify acts of violence or harm towards self or others.” Meanwhile, eBay prohibits “items that promote or glorify human tragedy, hatred, violence, racial, sexual, or religious intolerance.”
By no means are these shirts the first tasteless pieces of Cobain-related merch devised by money-grubbing fans. Also see: the “27 Club” candle, Kurt Cobain skateboard, or the guy selling his childhood home (complete with mattress).
