Indie pop four-piece from Leeds crafts a shimmering ode to life

Since forming in 2011 while they were still in high school, Marsicans have been building a strong reputation from their hometown of Leeds throughout England. The indie pop four-piece has turned heads at festivals like Reading & Leeds and Live at Leeds, as well as touring behind acts like Catfish & the Bottlemen and The Pigeon Detectives, all behind only a handful of self-released efforts. Now, at just 21 years old and while still finishing university or working part-time jobs, the members of Marsicans are gearing up for the release of their next EP, due later this summer.

As a preview of the forthcoming release, they’ve shared the new track “Gone in a Second”. Frontman James Newbigging wrote the track following the loss of two grandparents in a two-week span. But despite the sorrowful inspiration, the song is a catchy blast of energy that will remind you to smile and take stock of the wonders around you. Over summery guitars and a driving rhythm, Newbigging sings out, “Say a word or maybe two or three, but no apologies/ Under the white of the snow and the heat of the sun.” Check it out below.

“Gone in a Second” will be released on limited edition colored vinyl as a Record Store Day release on April 18th in the UK via Miller Records, and digitally through Love vs. Fear Records. It will also be featured on an EP scheduled for a US and UK release this summer, with a full-length to follow by the end of the year or early 2016.
