Death Valley Girls premiere new single “Summertime” — listen

LA punk quintet deliver a surfy cut of garage punk

Last year, Death Valley Girls thrashed onto the scene with their debut album, Street Venom. It wasn’t long before they followed it up with a blistering single “Electric High”which along with B-side “Gettin’ Hard” showcased the band continuing its fast-paced aural assault. On new single “Summertime”, the quintet is only getting louder.

The new track sways with a bit of a beachy, ’60s garage rock vibe, mostly due to the dueling guitar work of Larry Schemel and frontwoman Bonnie Bloomgardne. Laura Kelsey pounds down on the drums to give the track a punchy jolt while Bobby “Burger” May adds a bit of menace with a slinking, steady bass. It all builds and explodes in the shrieking chorus as singer Jessie Jones and joins Bloomgarden to deliver the half-threatening, half-disinterested wail of, “I’ll see you in the summertime!” It’s a raucous, scuzzy slice of sun-baked proto-punk, and you can check it out below.

“Summertime” is due out April 21st from Manimal Records. Below, find Death Valley Girls’ upcoming tour itinerary.
