Buzz Osborne, frontman of the Melvins, is throwing serious shade at Brett Morgen’s recently released documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, declaring that 90 percent of the film is “total bullshit.”
In an op-ed for The Talkhouse, Osborne questioned the fact checking behind the film, claiming that most of what was said by Courtney Love wasn’t consistent with what Cobain had told him. Osborne was a friend and mentor to Cobain during his formative years, and the two attended high school together.
In addition to issues with Love’s side of the story, Osborne contested several other stories put forth in the film as facts. He said Cobain didn’t have issues with his stomach. “[Cobain] made it up for sympathy and so he could use it as an excuse” to use heroin, Osborne countered.
Osborne also disputed a story about Cobain’s attempt to sleep with a mentally handicapped female peer in high school. “I know the whole ‘I tried to fuck a fat retard’ story is complete bullshit. Not even an inkling of truth. That’s too good a story to have gone this long without me hearing about it, especially if, as he suggests, the girl’s father freaked out about it at the high school,” wrote Osborne, adding, “In that small-town shit-hole, exciting news of that nature would have been common knowledge before the sun set. It never happened.”
“[Cobain] was a master of jerking your chain,” Osborne added.
