Jaill premieres new song “Getaway” — listen

Fourth studio LP, Brain Cream, lands in stores later this month

Most artists plead for loved ones to stay and brave the turbulence of rocky relationships. Not Jaill. On new song “Getaway”, the Milwaukee indie rockers are brutally honest in terms of knowing their worth and acknowledging that some things just aren’t meant to be.

According to Vinnie Kircher, the band’s frontman and lead songwriter, the track’s about “pushing the ‘if you love someone set them free’ more to like, ‘everyone that loves you may be better off further from you, so realize it and help them getaway from you.'” It’s a sobering revelation, to be sure, knowing that you’re the one who’s the ticking time bomb. It’s also quite a brave gesture of self-awareness if you manage to pull away and put some distance between yourself and the person you’re about to emotionally destroy.

Despite the song’s inherent seriousness, though, Jaill continue plugging away like their usual upbeat selves, coupling the deep reflections with delightfully carefree and jangling melodies. Perhaps they do this as some kind of reverse psychology treatment –softening a self-inflicted wound? It’s a good, deep listen either way, so check it out below.

“Getaway” appears on Jaill’s forthcoming fourth studio album, Brain Cream, which arrives on June 30th through Burger Records. For more, check out “Got an F”.
