Only a couple hundred miles from their hometown of Athens, Alabama, Alabama Shakes played Friday night in the sprawling and beautifully constructed Encore Park Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre deep in suburban Atlanta. Despite the setting replete with high steel beams and a pit holding thousands, Brittany Howard and co. managed to deliver what felt like an intimate and inspired performance.

Heavy on material from their spectrum-running sonic rainbow Sound and Color, Alabama Shakes delivered juiced hit country psych soul “Future People”, straightforward garage rock “The Greatest”, and an utterly stunning version of “Gimme All Your Love”, a tune that could’ve hit AM gold in a different era.

Still playing with a relatively small catalog, an Alabama Shakes show in 2015 proves the consistently high quality of their current output to date.
