Real Estate’s Martin Courtney shares new solo song “Vestiges” — listen

Guitarist/vocalist sets out on his own with new solo project

This week, New Jersey indie rockers Real Estate announced that they had played their last show behind 2014’s Atlas LP. The touring breather hardly means the band’s members are sitting still, however. Guitarist Matt Mondanile has his Ducktails outfit, which just released a new album, to keep him busy. Similarly, it looks like vocalist/guitarist Martin Courtney has launched a solo side project of his own.

Today, Courtney has shared “Vestiges”, a new laid-back, semi-jammy song that sounds exactly like what you’d expect from a Real Estate-affiliated act. According to a short message from the guitarist, the track features contributions from Woods members Jarvis Taveniere and Aaron Neveu, who play bass and drums, respectively. Listen/download below and expect more tunes to come from Courtney.

Courtney’s message:

Friends –

For the past year and a half, between Real Estate tours, I’ve been working on some songs with Jarvis Taveniere (from Woods) producing and playing bass. I’m excited to finally be able to share the first song, “Vestiges”.

Credit where credit’s due:

Aaron Neveu – also of Woods – played drums on this song, my brother in law, Harrison Joyce, helped me out with the string arrangement, and some of his friends from Juilliard, Patrick Hopkins, Matthew Sinno and Jonathan Miron played cello, viola and violin, respectively.

I’m really stoked with how it turned out. Download the track for free now through SoundCloud. Hope you enjoy!

More to come…
