Small Black shares new song “No One Wants It to Happen to You” — listen

Though familiar with heartbreak, the Brooklyn outfit remains hopeful

Small Black wrestles with misfortunes on its forthcoming album, Best Blues, due out this fall through Jagjaguwar. The follow-up to 2013’s Limits of Desire is “about loss, the specific loss of precious people in our lives, but also the loss of memories and the difficult fight to preserve them,” a press release reads. The synthpop group’s latest preview, the hazy “No One Wants It to Happen to You”, captures this feeling of utter devastation, but also features glimmers of hope.

“‘No One Wants It To Happen To You’ was meant as a mantra,” lead vocalist Josh Kolenik explains. “Something an older, wiser friend told you once that you might cling to in order to get through a terrible situation. The phrase you keep folded up in your pocket, letting you know better will surely come.”’
