Earlier this year, director Adam McKay made every filmmaker salivate when he uncovered his “cast of a lifetime” for his next film, The Big Short. Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt — an assembly of four marquee names that would give Harvey Weinstein his fifth ulcer. It gets better, too: They’ll all be joined by Academy Award-winning actresses Marisa Tomei and Melissa Leo, in addition to Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor Tracy Letts. Well, now there’s a trailer.
Based on Michael Lewis’ bestselling non-fiction book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine, the film captures the build-up of the housing and credit bubble and zeroes in on the savvy investors who shorted the market prior to its financial collapse in 2008. Screenwriter Charles Randolph (Love and Other Drugs) penned the script, which McKay then further adapted into a screenplay. Maybe it’s the Led Zeppelin talkin’, but this trailer couldn’t bring a brighter smile to this writer’s face.
The Big Short opens in limited theaters on December 11th before expanding wide on December 23rd.
