Stephen Colbert’s reign as host of the Late Show is off to impressive start. Last night’s premiere episode saw the comedian publicly shame Donald Trump with the assistance of Oreos, promote a fake movie starring George Clooney, and tell Jeb Bush to his face that he would not be voting for him.
The biggest highlight, however, came in the form of the episode’s all-star music performance, which showed off the chops of bandleader Jon Batiste along with Colbert’s impressive rolodex of musician friends. The likes of Mavis Staples, Ben Folds, Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard, Buddy Guy, Derek Trucks, and Susan Tedeschi joined Colbert, Batiste, and the late show band for a rousing rendition of Sly and the Family Stone’s “Everyday People”.
And to think, that was only night one. Tonight’s episode will feature a sure-to-be-fire performance from Kendrick Lamar.
Below, watch the “Everyday People” performance (via Vulture) and George Clooney’s new “movie” trailer.
