Bourne’s back, baby. The latest entry in the Jason Bourne series began filming today, and producer Frank Marhsall celebrated by sharing a picture of star Matt Damon on set. The muscly, shirtless pic is technically the first time we’ve seen Damon as Bourne in over eight years. As you can tell, the character appears to be about to enter a rough spot, but we’re sure it’s nothing the CIA’s best assassin can’t handle.
Director Paul Greengrass is helming the film, his third in the successful franchise following Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum. Julia Stiles also returns as Nicky, while new cast members include Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander. Vincent Cassel will play the film’s villain, “a mysterious man simply known as The Asset, industry code for assassin.”
Besides that, not much is known about the Christopher Rouse-penned action flick, though Damon recently said Bourne will travel “through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” and that the film will address themes of “spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”
