The Coens work in mysterious ways. Hail Caesar!, their forthcoming film and follow-up to 2013’s hideously underrated Inside Llewyn Davis, has been quite an elusive project. Back in April, composer Carter Burwell called it “a musical comedy that takes place on a Hollywood backlot,” before backpedaling and arguing, “I wouldn’t actually call it a ‘musical comedy’ — there are movies within the movie, and those movies might have comedic music, but the movie we’re making is actually not comical.”
He then added, “I’m quite certain it’s actually going to be quite the opposite. It’s going to be rather serious, and it’s about faith. It’s not about the music.” Well, now there’s a trailer, and it looks like it could be a caper, a murder mystery, a musical, and a Hollywood farce, all rolled up into one. What’s for certain, however, is that it’s a star-studded affair, sporting an A-list cast that includes George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson, and Jonah Hill.
Hail, Caesar! hits theaters on February 5, 2016.
