Neon Indian mastermind Alan Palomo has frequently said he takes a filmmaker’s approach to songwriting, so releasing a short film makes some sort of sense for the artist. That’s what he’s done for the VEGA INTL. Night School track “Slumlord Rising”. Palomo himself actually took a co-director role for the shoot alongside Tim Nackashi, and it seems the musician has some serious cinematic chops.
Nearly half of the eight-and-a-half minute clip is one continuous tracking shot, starting inside a corner store and continuing across the street to a seedy Los Angeles nightclub. All the relevant characters are introduced during this single take, though you won’t know it until the bloody incident inside the club itself. What goes down and who exactly Slumlord is are just part of the mystery, so check out the clip below.
Neon Indian has also relaunched his hotline. You can dial up +1-512-643-VEGA for a special message from Palomo and a secret gif.
