Will Smith has been teasing a return to rap for awhile now, with “impromptu” performances of his classic tracks on late night talk shows and even stating he’s recorded new tracks with Kanye West. But this time it’s not a drill, as the once and future Fresh Prince has just released his first new music in over a decade.
Though it’s not a Yeezus collaboration, the actor/rapper appears on a remix for the track “Fiesta” from Colombian “electro tropical” dance group Bomba Estéreo (seen together above via Facebook). Apparently, Smith heard the track on a recent trip to Colombia and reached out about working on a remix with the Latin Grammy-nominated group. “Hola mamacita / Go get me a beer-a / The track is the heat / I couldn’t let the beat go by without a feature,” Smith spits on his first bars since 2005’s Lost and Found LP. He even goes on to reference his old rap persona: “No gas in me, I’m a Tesla / Teach game, sensei, professor/ Will Smith, Estéreo, the Fresh One.”
A music video for the remix was recently filmed in Los Angeles, which should be premiering soon. Until then, listen to the track below, and ponder if this means we’re one step closer to those Kanye collaborations. Welcome back, Big Willie.
