“The Less I Know the Better” off Tame Impala’s Currents recounts that all-too familiar tale of being in love with someone who’s chosen someone else. In the new video for the standout track, the expectations of who comes out on top in the triangle are flipped in wonderfully stylized fashion.
The clip plays on the well-established dynamic of the head cheerleader hooking up with the star basketball player. In this world, it turns out the pretty cheer captain has a bit of a furry fetish, as she much prefers the team’s gorilla mascot (“Trevor”) to its leading scorer. There are some slightly NSFW shots, but also some crazily imaginative ones, like the dancers’ King Kong hand outfits or the intricately animated psychedelic breakdown. It’s as trippy and creative as anything you’ll hear on a Tame record, and well worth the watch. Check it out below.
