Amid the making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot secretly filmed a sequel to his 2008 found footage monster movie Cloverfield.
Entitled 10 Cloverfield Lane, the project was successfully kept under wraps until last night, when the first trailer premiered prior to screenings of 13 Hours. The film was directed by Dan Trachtenberg, featuring a cast that includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman, and John Gallagher Jr. A release date is set for March 11th, 2016.
In a statement issued to Collider, Abrams stopped short of calling 10 Cloverfield Lane a direct sequel to Cloverfield, but instead likened it to “a blood relative.” The plot reportedly sees Goodman playing a doomsday prepper who is keeping Winstead’s character locked in a cellar out of fear that a chemical attack has left the outside world uninhabitable.
