Daisy Ridley eyed to play Lara Croft in Tomb Raider reboot

Star Wars actress may have found herself another major franchise

Daisy Ridley

On the heels of her breakout performance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley is reportedly being eyed for another major film franchise. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. and MGM have circled the 23-year-old actress as the potential lead in the forthcoming reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise.

Angelina Jolie starred in the previous two Tomb Raider films released in the early 2000s. Deadline notes that a reboot has been in the works for several years, but the project received renewed interest following the release of a new Tomb Raider video game in 2013. The game, which itself was a reboot, presented a younger version of Croft’s character, which film producers are apparently emulating for the forthcoming film.

Deadline stresses that Ridley is just one of several actress being considered for the role, but “conversations have taken place.” It certainly appears Ridley is keeping her schedule open for the project, as she has nothing lined up beyond the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Update – Monday, March 10th at 3:15 p.m. CT: In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley confirms she’s in talks to star in the new Tomb Raider movie.
