Dum Dum Girls frontwoman Dee Dee announces solo debut, shares “X-Communicate” — listen

Upcoming 10-track effort will be released under new moniker Kristin Kontrol

Dum Dum Girls frontwoman Kristin Welchez, aka Dee Dee, is gearing up to put out her full-length solo debut, X-Communicate. Due out on May 27th through Sub Pop, it will be released under her new moniker Kristin Kontrol.

The 10-track effort was produced by Kurt Feldman (The Depreciation Guild, Ice Choir) and Andrew Miller, alongside frequent Dum Dum Girls producer Richard Gottehrer. That’s the artwork above.

In a press release, Welchez explained her vision for Kristin Kontrol as compared to Dum Dum Girls:

“For me as leader of Dum Dum Girls it felt very stoic and serious, and I am serious, but anyone who really knows me knows I’m silly, too; I smile a lot. As the years went on, it was so weird that I kept so much of me out of what I was doing creatively. The first music I really identified as my own was very poppy, classic 80s, from Debbie Gibson and Tiffany to Janet Jackson and Madonna. I didn’t want to make a record with typical rock vocals.”

As a preview of the forthcoming LP, Welchez has shared the title track below.

X-Communicate Tracklist:
