Peter Bjorn and John are gearing up to release their sixth studio effort, Breakin’ Point, on June 10th through their personal imprint INGRID. The follow-up to 2011’s Gimme Some features production from the likes of Paul Epworth (Paul McCartney, Florence and the Machine), Greg Kurstin (Adele, Beck), and Emile Haynie (ASAP Rocky, Lana Del Rey).
Earlier this month, we had our first taste of Breakin’ Point via the disco-tinged “What You Talking About?”. Today, the Swedish three-piece is back with the LP’s title track, a lovely number uplifted by a harmonious mix of sweet whistling, reverberating drums, and a swelling chorus.
The band’s own Peter Morén offered up some context on the song, telling Stereogum:
“It’s about waiting for new things coming ahead that will leave the past in the dust or at least make it look very different. About mental and physical adjustment. About kids becoming parents and maybe about growing up. About perspective, balance and seeing things for what they might actually be and not blown up to grotesque proportions. It features great production from Emile Haynie and whistling (may seem like bigger news than it is, hey its only whistling) and its the title track from our new album and we’re very proud of it!”
