Billy Corgan and his Smashing Pumpkins launched the second incarnation of their In Plainsong acoustic-electro tour in Portland, Oregon last night. The band brought quite an impressive setlist to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, one that included an assortment of covers.
On the nostalgic front, Corgan’s crew took on another icon of ’90s alternative, Hole. While Courtney Love may be a bit hit or miss when covering other people’s songs, the Pumpkins did “Malibu” justice. Being that Corgan himself co-wrote the track, the quality of his version might not be so surprising, but vocalist Katie Cole certainly does her part to bring it all home. Check out fan-shot video below (via Alternative Nation).
Earlier in the set, Corgan took front and center to pay tribute to the late David Bowie. He delivered a strictly acoustic cover of “Space Oddity”.
