Willis Earl Beal announces new EP, Through the Dark, shares soulful title track — listen

The follow-up to last summer's Noctunes is due out next week

Willis Earl Beal released Noctunes, his latest full-length, last August. Now, less than 10 months later, he’s back with news of a forthcoming digital EP. Through the Dark spans eight tracks and is expected to drop next week on April 1st through Tender Loving Empire.

According to an official statement, the new project sees the lo-fi troubadour teaming up with Nathan Gibson, “an unknown producer whom Willis literally met on the street.” The tracks are said to continue in the spirit of Beal’s previous album:

“These recordings continue the story of ‘Willis Earl Beal’ in his journey through the darkness to the unknown ending light. This record is a tangible audio document of the life of the fictional character “Willis Earl Beal” combined with a hint of the infinite space beyond his small life. This record is a non-existent time capsule of time, which does not exist, in the life of a character who was created by his experiences, which are illusory.”

As a preview of the EP, Beal has shared its title track, a soulful, hushed ballad that truly does sound born out of the murky depths of darkness. Stream it below.
