Beyoncé signees Chloe X Halle share debut single “Drop” — watch

Duo’s lead single comes with a stylish music video shot at Big Sky Movie Ranch

“Drop” is not the kind of track that most R&B acts burst out of the gates with, but Chloe and Halle Bailey are not most R&B acts. The young musicians are signed to Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment and have performed for First Lady Michelle Obama, so the fact that Chloe x Halle’s debut single sounds almost ridiculously self-assured shouldn’t exactly surprise anyone.

“Drop” attempts to push the genre in expansive new directions, and it largely succeeds. The Beyoncé influence is there, though the mood is starker and the rhythms more sporadic. At certain points, the song comes across like a more sensual version of a Western film soundtrack, so it makes sense that Chloe x Halle and director Andy Hines opted to shoot the video at Big Sky Movie Ranch, where scenes from Django Unchained were filmed. As befits the setting, the video’s got horses. Lots of horses.
