After five years apart, alternative hip-hop group Digable Planets reunited last December for a hometown Seattle show. They then were announced as part of the Pitchfork Music Festival, Sasquatch!, and Essence Festival lineups, leading to hopes for a full-blown reunion tour. Now, that wish has been fulfilled with the reveal of several new summer tour dates.
The trio of Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira, Craig “Doodlebug” Irving, and Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler (currently of Shabazz Palaces) will hit the road in July for a short run of eastern and southern dates. They also have an August date in Salt Lake City with Pusha T, so there’s always the chance of an expanded schedule in the future.
Digable Planets initially went their separate ways in 1995. They first reunited in 2005 around the release of their Beyond the Spectrum: the Creamy Spy Chronicles compilation album, and once again in 2011. To see what the reunited outfit looks like today, check out their performance of “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)” from their recent Seattle show beneath the tour dates.
