Of all days, Guns N’ Roses’ classic lineup has pegged April Fools, April 1st, for their first performance together in 23 years. However, this isn’t some elaborate prank; TMZ reports that Los Angeles police have already begun assembling around the Sunset Strip in anticipation of a concert scheduled to take place later today.
Update – Friday, April 1st at 12:00 p.m. CT: Guns N’ Roses have officially announced the concert, to take place this evening, “sometime after 11pm”, at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. A limited number of tickets, priced at $10 each, will be distributed at Gibson Brands on Sunset, formerly known as Tower Records, at Noon local time.
Slash used to work at Tower Records, and the band has transformed the store “into a complete interactive GNR experience with a memorabilia exhibit curated by Blaine Halvorson, designer of MadeWorn. The exhibit opens at 12pm and will include historic items such as members’ classic attire, original artwork, personal awards and more.”
Rumors of the impending gig began to circulate last night when crew members arrived at Gibson Brands and began dressing up the store with GNR-themed signage. Photos posted to Instagram also reveal the construction of what looks to be a stage in the back lot of the store.
The activity prompted fans to begin lining up outside Tower Records. They were told to expect an announcement at 10am local time, and to have their IDs ready.
Meanwhile, the Troubadour’s marquee currently reads, “Not in This Lifetime”, which happens to be Axl Rose’s exact quote when asked about the possibility of a reunion back in 2012. The show marks Axl, Slash, and Duff McKagan’s first together since 1993, and kicks off their long-awaited reunion tour. Next week, the band will play a pair of shows in Las Vegas before hitting the stage in Indio, California to headline Coachella. A more extensive outing is confirmed for this summer — however, dates are as yet unannounced.
