Response to M83’s latest album, Junk, has been lukewarm at best. But that hasn’t done anything to slow down the band’s live show, which is as dynamic as ever. During their set at last weekend’s Coachella Music Festival, Anthony Gonzalez and his rearranged troupe (goodbye Morgan Kibby, hello Kaela Sinclair) showed why they remain a formidable entity on stage.
Biding time before their return to Coachella this weekend, M83 stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform “Do It, Try It”, the lead single off Junk, Like the band itself, the bouncy, piano-heavy single comes across better in a live setting than it does on record. It doesn’t hurt that Gonzalez and Co. really bring it in the visual department, with a dazzling backdrop that shows why they might be too big even for the late-night stage. Also, Gonzalez dressed up as Michael J. Fox’s Teen Wolf, because why not?
