Melissa McCarthy confirms her return for Netflix’s Gilmore Girls

Sookie St. James is officially returning to Stars Hollow

Stars Hollow wouldn’t be the same without Sookie St. James; fortunately, fans of Gilmore Girls won’t have to fathom such a scenario. Melissa McCarthy’s ascent to Hollywood A-list status threw into doubt her participation in Netflix’s forthcoming revival. However, as McCarthy herself revealed during an appearance on Ellen Friday, she will in fact be appearing on the show.

“We could not get those schedules to work, there was this whole thing,” McCarthy explained in regards to early reports that she would not reprise her Gilmore Girls character. “Literally about an hour and a half ago we figured out that I am going to go back and do it.”

“I’m going to go back and do it,” McCarthy added. “[Series creator] Amy Sherman-Palladino is going to squeeze me in to do it. I’m very happy to go back to Stars Hollow.”

In addition to McCarthy, Lauren Graham (Lorelai!), Alexis Bledel (Rory), Scott Patterson (Luke!), Kelly Bishop (Grandma Emily), Sean Gunn (Kirk), and Keiko Agena (Lane!) are among the many original cast members set to return. Sherman-Palladino, who was famously fired before the show’s seventh and final season, will return to write and direct every episode of the series.

The series will consist of four 90-minute episodes, each set in a different season of the year. There’s no word yet on a release date.

Now the only question left unanswered: Will American hero Kyle Gibson return to throw another house party?
