Prince’s body cremated in private ceremony

Prince was formally laid to rest on Saturday. According to the Associated Press, the musician’s body was cremated, with the “final storage” of his remains to be kept private. A small group of family and friends celebrated him in a private ceremony.

Additionally, fans gathered outside Paisley Park were given round purple boxes containing a color photo of Prince along with a “3121” t-shirt, the Associated Press reports.

Update: According to a statement from the family, an “announcement will be made at a future date for a musical celebration.”

Prince died Thursday after being found unresponsive in an elevator. An autopsy was conducted Friday, but the results won’t be known for at least four weeks.
