Guillermo del Toro rants and raves about John Carpenter on Twitter

Horror fans, take note: This is what true love looks like

Who doesn’t love John Carpenter? Sure, cinephiles who loathe genre films, I suppose, but it’s hard to hate on a filmography that includes Halloween, The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, and Escape From New York. From 1976 to 1986, the auteur went on an unstoppable tear, carving out a collection of films that remain go-to popcorn classics to this day.

You can toss Guillermo del Toro into that collection of die-hard fans. Considering his wide breadth of genre work — from Mimic to Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone to Crimson Peak — that’s not too much of a surprise. But, this century’s horror master proved his love for the man on Sunday afternoon with an incredibly illuminating Twitter rant.

It started with a feeling…

Before he dove head first into Carpenter’s best stuff:

He loves those sidebars…

But not as much as The Fog:

Count him in as one of Carpenter’s concertgoers this summer…

There’s that sidebar again:

Write this down…

On with the show!

Four tweets were not enough on The Thing, though…

After stretching those fingers, he got personal…

…before finally coming to a proper conclusion:

And that, my friends, is genuine adoration. It’s just a shame we didn’t hear his two cents on Escape From New York, In the Mouth of Madness, or Vampires. You gotta love James Woods in Vampires
