Joey Purp and Chance the Rapper link up on “Girls @” — listen

A preview of Purp's latest mixtape, iiiDrops, due out next week

Joey Purp will drop a new mixtape called iiiDrops on May 27th. The project serves as the follow-up to The Purple Tape, a 2012 collection that established Purp as one of Chicago’s rising hip-hop stars. Joining him on the 11-track effort are a number of his fellow Savemoney crew members, including Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa. Other local rappers Mick Jenkins and Saba also contributed bars.

Along with the mixtape announcement, Purp has shared “Girls @”, his collaborative track with Chance. While his last offering “Cornerstone” was deemed a protest song, Purp takes a brief detour from such weighted topics here. Rather than the usual calls for social justice, he and Chance play off the lighter subject of, well, seeking where the girls are at. The song was produced by Knox Fortune, who recently lent Chance a hand on his latest tour de force, Coloring Book.
