Speedy Ortiz will return on June 3rd with their Foiled Again EP, an addendum to last year’s Foil Deer full-length. After sharing the lead single “Death Note”, the band has today premiered the release’s other new track, “Emma O”.
The track is a road song, but not the type that begs for rolled down windows and sunsets. Slow-burning and forlorn, “Emma O” is meant for those long drives across monotonous landscapes under overcast skies. According to frontwoman Sadie Dupuis, “’Emma-O’ is the name of the Japanese Buddhist overlord of hell who judges souls. It’s about spending uncomfortable, quiet hours with someone you still love but shouldn’t. I wrote it at a farmhouse in upstate New York years ago.”
