Axl Rose on Guns N’ Roses: Slash and Duff will be around “for quite a while”

Guns N' Roses frontman also confirms plans for new music

Slash Axl reunion

Later this month, Guns N’ Roses will kick off their “Not In This Lifetime Tour”, bringing together Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan for the first time in 23 years. During a fan Q&A in London this week, Axl spoke for the first time about rekindling his relationship with Slash, plans for new music, and the band’s plans beyond their upcoming tour.

Axl said that he and Slash patched things up over the phone in 2015. “Slash and I hadn’t talked in 19 years, and it was a good talk,” he recounted. One of the main points of contention, Axl revealed, were the contents of Slash’s 2007 autobiography. “And I was, like, ‘You wrote a lot of stuff [in your book] that didn’t even happen. It’s not real.’”

The GNR frontman went on to laud Slash for his work ethic. “To Slash’s credit, he and Duff … worked very hard … I didn’t have to tell Slash anything about embracing, or how to play the Chinese Democracy songs. He just embraced them. He worked really hard.”

“The last times we talked, he said ‘I don’t want to work that hard.’ For him to take on Buckethead’s parts and step into it on his own and work on it and enjoy it, that helped a lot.”

Axl said he hopes to keep GNR’s current lineup “going for quite a while.” As such, the band plans to tour in cities beyond North America, and Axl said he’s also working on new music. “We are working on new stuff. I’ve got a lot of stuff together, and I played some stuff for Slash and Duff and they liked it.”
